Next, we will visit the famous “salt mines” known as SALINERAS, located northwest of the town. These salt mines consist of approximately 3000 small wells with an area of about 5 square meters each. During dry seasons, these wells are filled with saltwater from a natural spring located above them. We will then make a stop in Urubamba for a buffet lunch at a tourist restaurant before continuing the tour to the town and archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. Finally, we will head to our last stop, PISAC, a town rich in culture and archaeology. Here, we will visit the local market and the archaeological site. We will return to Cusco and arrive at approximately 7:00 pm.

Day 4Cusco- Ollantayatmbo - Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu

In this tour, we will pick you up early from your hotel. You will be transported in a private tourist vehicle directly from Cusco to the town and station of Ollantaytambo (the journey by transportation takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes). From there, we will take the train, where you will enjoy the views of the Vilcanota River and the vast panorama of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, until we reach the town and station of Aguas Calientes (the train journey takes 1 hour and 40 minutes). At the station, you will be greeted by a transfer holding a sign with your name, and we will proceed to board the bus that will take us on a 30-minute zigzagging journey up to the incredible Machu Picchu.

The excursion includes a 2-hour guided tour of the Citadel, where you will visit the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Inti Huatana, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Inca Cemetery, and other sites. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. Later, we will descend by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes. (Lunch is not included and will be at your own expense).

In the afternoon, we will take the return train from Aguas Calientes, arriving at the Ollantaytambo station, where we will then take transportation back to the city of Cusco.

Day 5Cusco - Vinicunca

Our transfer will pick you up from your respective hotels between 4:30 and 5:00 am, and we will have a journey of approximately 3 hours. During the trip, we will pass by typical villages, such as the colonial bridge of Checacupe.

Upon reaching the village of Cusipata, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast before continuing to the starting point of the hike. From there, we will begin our hike through the slopes of the Ausangate mountain, with a 1-hour and 30-minute hike to the Rainbow Mountain or the well-known Vinicunca Mountain. After a long hike, we will have the opportunity to appreciate and explore the vast plains offered by the red hill, or Cerro Colorado. After spending 1 hour taking photos in the Red Valley and Rainbow Mountain, we will return to the village of Vinicunca for our lunch and then make our way back to the city of Cusco.

Day 6Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Laguna Humantay

We will pick you up from your respective hotel between 4:45 and 5:30 am to travel in our private transportation to the town of Mollepata, located in the lush valley of the Apurimac River.

Later, we will be transferred back to our city of Cusco, and we will drop you off in the city center, near the main Plaza de Armas.

Day 7 - 8Puno - Amantani - Taquile

PUNO

We will pick you up at the terminal at 5:45 am. The first stop will be at the floating islands of Uros. We will visit these islands, which are constructed on the world’s highest navigable lake. Our guide will explain the importance of the islands. Our visit will last approximately 1.5 hours.

The second destination is the Island of Amantani, where we will spend the night. To reach the island of Amantani, we will sail for 9.0 miles or up to three hours, during which you can enjoy scenic beauty and the Andes mountains.

At the main port of Amantani, the community president will welcome us, and we will be divided into groups so that families can take care of our accommodation, meals, and company. During the evening, you have the option to take a walk around the sacred mountain known as Pacha Tata. This excursion will be coordinated by the guide.

Amantani is also known for the kindness of its people and the naturally inhabiting Cantuta flower. Eight communities are involved in agricultural terraces, sheep farming, artisanal textiles, and stone sculptures.

 AMANTANI – TAQUILE

After a delicious breakfast, we head to the next island, Taquile Island, a one-hour boat ride away. The majority of the people in Taquile are very supportive and organized, which is why the Taquileños have shown a high degree of progress in textiles, earning them the UNESCO award. Interestingly, spinning and weaving are mainly done by men, starting from the age of eight and onwards, while women focus on spinning and weaving only. Life in Taquile largely remains unchanged by modernity.

The visit to Taquile Island will last an average of two hours, with one hour dedicated to enjoying a delicious typical lunch. If you truly want to be part of this community, you can voluntarily contribute by purchasing some of their crafts. This way, the community has sustainable means to continue showcasing its existence to future travelers.
