Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

On your Machu Picchu day trip from Cusco, we will depart early in the morning, around 5:30 AM.

Our journey begins by heading to Ollantaytambo, located about 60 kilometers northwest of Cusco.

We will reach Ollantaytambo, where we will have a brief stop to explore the town and visit the impressive Inca ruins.

Afterwards, we will continue our journey to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. The distance from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes is approximately 30 kilometers.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we will have some free time to have lunch and prepare for the highlight of our trip.

We will then take a bus from Aguas Calientes up to Machu Picchu. The bus ride takes around 30 minutes and covers a distance of approximately 8 kilometers.

Arriving at Machu Picchu, we will have a guided tour of the ancient Inca citadel, exploring its temples, terraces, and learning about its fascinating history. The tour will last around 2-3 hours.

After the guided tour, you will have some free time to further explore Machu Picchu on your own, take pictures, and soak in the breathtaking views.

In the afternoon, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you will have some time to relax, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy the local hot springs.

Finally, we will take the train from Aguas Calientes back to Ollantaytambo, and from there, a bus will transfer us back to Cusco.

Our journey begins by driving to the village of Cusipata, located about 90 kilometers southeast of Cusco.

We will reach Cusipata, where we will have a quick breakfast to energize ourselves for the upcoming hike.

After breakfast, we will continue our drive to the trailhead near the community of Chillca, which is approximately 14 kilometers away.

From the trailhead, we will start our trek to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. The total hiking distance is approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles).

The trail will take us through stunning landscapes, including valleys, streams, and high-altitude grasslands.

As we ascend, we will gradually reach higher altitudes, with the highest point of the hike reaching around 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) above sea level at Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain.

At the summit, we will have time to take in the breathtaking panoramic views and capture memorable photos of the vibrant rainbow-colored mountain.

After enjoying the scenery and taking a well-deserved break, we will descend back to the trailhead.

The total hiking time is around 4-5 hours, depending on the pace of the group and weather conditions.

We will reach Soraypampa, where we will have a light breakfast to fuel ourselves for the hike.

After breakfast, we will start our trek to Lake Humantay, which is situated at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level.

The total hiking distance is approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) round trip.

The trail will take us through breathtaking mountain landscapes, crossing streams and rocky terrain.

As we ascend, we will gradually reach higher altitudes, with the highest point of the hike reaching around 4,300 meters (14,108 feet) at Lake Humantay.

Upon arrival at Lake Humantay, we will have time to admire its crystal-clear turquoise waters and the majestic snow-capped peaks surrounding it.

After spending some time at the lake, we will begin our descent back to Soraypampa.
